6. Schedule of Races
6.1 A competitors’ meeting will be held at 0900 on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, inside the Macatawa Bay Yacht Club.
6.2 Eight races (including a tune-up race) are scheduled as follows:
DAY Date First Warning Signal # Of Races Planned
Tuesday 8/10 1130 Tune-up and Race #1
Wednesday 8/11 1130 Race #2 and Race #3
Thursday 8/12 1130 Race #4 and Race #5
Friday 8/13 1130 Race #6 and Race #7.
6.3 Excluding the tune-up race, a minimum of 3 races must be completed to constitute a Championship Series. A maximum of 7 races are scheduled for the Championship Series. If at least 5 races are completed for the series, then each boat will be allowed 1 throw out.
6.4 The goal of this regatta is to complete the 7 Championship Series races. Wind and other weather-related conditions may not allow all races to be sailed as scheduled. Therefore, the RC may elect to complete three races on one or more days.
6.5 Harbor starts shall be at 1000 each day of racing unless a postponement is signaled at or before that time by the RC at the dock. No race shall be started before 1130 each day, nor later than1630.
6.6 Typically, a harbor start and/or a start on the water will be postponed by the RC if wind conditions are less than 2 knots or regularly gusting to more than 25 knots, at the discretion of the RC.
6.7 The course to the racing area is approximately two miles, on a course of 260 degrees from the entrance light to Macatawa Bay.
7. The Course
7.1 The RC will select course “G” (Gold Cup Course), “O” (Olympic Course) or “W” (Windward-Leeward Course) from the course diagrams attached hereto. Course diagrams show the order in which the marks are to be passed, and the side on which each mark is to be left.
7.2 The selected course will be displayed on a board with the course pattern designated by its letter name, together with the bearing to the weather mark, and displayed on the whiteboard mounted on the RC signal boat.
7.3 Course W: The number displayed after or below course letter “W” indicates the number of times that course “W” is to be sailed around. For example, if the number “2” is displayed, then course W is to be sailed around twice (four legs).
7.4 If there is a port end RC boat, it may display code flag “X” or First Substitute in the event of and individual recall or general recall, respectively.
8. Marks
8.1 Each mark of the course shall be an inflatable orange tetrahedron or inflatable yellow sphere.
8.3 Offset Mark – an offset mark may be used in conjunction with the weather mark. The offset Mark will be placed at approximately a right angle to the windward leg, and approximately 100 feet to the left of the weather mark as viewed in the direction from the start to the weather mark.
9. Checking in
Before the warning signal of her first race each day, each yacht shall sail past the RC Signal Boat and hail her sail number until acknowledged by a member of the RC repeating the boat’s sail number.
10. The Start
10.1 Races will be started pursuant to Rule 26.
10.2 The starting line will be between the staff from which an orange flag is displayed on the RC signal boat at the starboard end and the course side of the port-end orange inflatable starting mark.
10.3 A yacht may not start later than fifteen minutes after the starting signal.
11. Recalls
Recalls shall be pursuant to Rule 29. In addition, the RC will attempt to hail the sail number(s) of on-the-course-side (OCS) yachts after the starting signal; provided, failure in whole or in part to do so shall not be grounds for redress.
12. Change of the Position of the Next Mark
To change the position of the next mark, the RC will lay a new mark which shall be a yellow inflatable mark (or move the finishing line) and remove the original orange inflatable mark as soon as practicable. The change will be signaled before the leading yacht has begun the leg, although the new mark may not be in position. Any mark to be rounded after rounding the new mark may be relocated without further signaling to maintain the original course configuration. In the event a new mark is replaced due to a subsequent change of course, said new mark will be replaced with an original mark pursuant to the above procedure.
13. Mark Boats - will display a blue RC flag.
14. The Finish
The finish line will be between a staff displaying an orange flag on a RC boat and the course side of the finish line mark. The finish line mark shall be a windward or leeward mark of the course, depending upon the course selected for that particular race (see attached Course Diagram).
15. Penalty System
Rules 44.1 and 44.2, and Article 9.8 is changed for this Championship Regatta so that ONLY one turn (360), including one tack and one gybe, is required.
16. Time Limit
16.1 The time limit for each race will be 150 minutes for the first yacht to finish. This changes 110 Class General Rule 9.2.
16.2 All yachts must finish within 30 minutes after the first yacht that sails the course finishes. Any yacht not finishing within that timeframe shall be scored one more than the last yacht finishing within that time frame.
16.3 If a yacht in last place in a race is delaying the start of another race, the RC, at its sole discretion, may terminate the race and score that yacht in the place she would have finished.
17. Protests and Requests for Redress
17.1 A yacht intending to protest about an incident that occurs in the racing area shall notify the RC finish boat of her intention, including the sail number of the yacht(s) being protested. This changes RRS 61.1(a).
17.2 A yacht intending to protest concerning an incident in the racing area that she is involved in or sees, shall hail “Protest” and conspicuously display a RED FLAG at the first reasonable opportunity for each. This changes RRS Part 5, Section A61.1.
17.3 Protests shall be written. Protest Forms will be made available by the RC. When completed, the protest form shall be delivered to the RC Representative at the Macatawa Bay Yacht Club within one (1) hour after the RC boat docks as noted by the RC.
17.4 The Protest time limit and a list of protests will be posted on the official notice board within 30 minutes of the end of protest time. This posting constitutes the notification required in RRS 61.1(b) and 63.2.
17.5 Disqualifications for violation of RRS part 2 will be scored and must be counted in the series (i.e., cannot be thrown out).
17.6 If the Protester and the Protestee cannot resolve the protest during the pre-hearing meeting, a protest hearing will be held according to RRS 63.
18. Scoring
18.1 The Low-Point Scoring System, RRS A4 will apply, except that three quarters of a point will be awarded for first place, two points for second place, etc. as described in the Class rules.
